LAST MONTH, we had the privilege to carry a remarkable in-depth interview with poet Anne Waldman exploring her practices as a spoken word performer and recording artist. It displayed a fierce commitment to her art and an elegant eloquence in her self reflection. The exchange also revealed some of her own musical tastes and inspirations.
We promised a detailed discography of Waldman’s 50-year experience of connecting her verse with musical styles of many kinds, collaborating with musicians of multiple influence. This definitive survey has been conducted by the writer herself in conjunction with fellow poet Jim Cohn, who also conducted the extended conversation in the first part of this double-header.
In a labour of dedication, Cohn has surveyed the field and provided a significant number of digital links to Waldman’s output, a project that has also enjoyed the full attention of the artist at the heart of the survey.
We hope you enjoy the sonic illustrations, from both the poet’s own Fast Speaking Music imprint and examples that pre-date that venture, supporting the numerous ideas and approaches described in the earlier question and answer exchange.
