A reader questions our reviewer Jonah Raskin’s assertion about the coastal quirks of the hippie nation…

Hello Sir,
I read your publication’s review of the new Dennis McNally book. I ordered it as I’ve read his other books.
One observation that I disagree with is that New York did not have a real hippie scene. I beg to differ. The many times I attended concerts at the Fillmore East including the Grateful Dead I believe the audiences were indeed the genuine article.
I look forward to reading Dennis’ new book.
As ever,

Yea verily in truth and forsooth Strider. My first sugar cube was in 64 in Frisco. Charles Plymel Kansas Cowboy poet and friend of Kansans McClure and Bruce Connor had a crib in the Haight Ashbury in 62 and flipped acid to Ginsberg & Neal Cassady at his famous parties which eventually led to THE ACID TESTS.
